Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group decided that within 5 years, it will progressively move its shipbuilding industry from within Dalian City to Changxing Island in stages. On 18 October 2008, the agreement was signed and the groundbreaking ceremony was held. The initial investment was 3.7 billion Yuan. The project mainly comprises large scale construction, high technology, high value ship repair, modification and manufacturing of marine engineering equipment. The ship repair project was already started in February 2009, and trail production will begin at the end of the year, and the shipbuilding project will commence at the end of 2009.
